About the Boxer
The Boxer was developed in Germany during the late 19th century from the now-extinct Bullenbeisser, a mastiff-type dog used for hunting large game such as deer, wild boar, and bear. The Bullenbeisser was crossed with the English Bulldog to produce a smaller, more refined dog that retained the original breed’s strength and courage while adding agility and companionability. Boxers belong to the AKC Working Group.
