About the Keeshond
The Keeshond (pronounced “KAYZ-hawnd”) is a striking spitz-type breed that served as the symbol of the Dutch Patriots Party during the political upheaval of 18th-century Holland. Named after the Patriot leader Cornelis (Kees) de Gyselaer, this breed had long served as a watchdog and companion aboard the barges and riverboats that plied the canals and rivers of the Netherlands.
